Affirmative Action

Affirmative Action (AA) refers to initiatives by companies in India in 4 Es (Employment, Employability, Entrepreneurship and Education) for greater inclusion of members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (only).

  • Other disadvantaged sections are not included in AA; nor OBCs

Need for Affirmative Action for the SC/ST communities

There is need of Affirmative Action to address following:

  • Centuries-old social discrimination (against SCs) and neglect (STs)
  • SCs and STs are the poorest of the poor in India
  • Enlightened self-interest for Indian Industry: by contributing to inclusive growth to enable social stability, a pre-condition for business to do business

It was some seven years ago that Indian industry, led by the CII, and the Tata Group embarked on an agenda of Affirmative Action (AA) for members of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (SC&ST) communities.

TML Drivelines has also adopted Tata Group Affirmative Action Policy.
